The Board of Directors of The American Ethical Union has named John Hartman their new Executive Director.
“It is an honor to be joining a truly unique movement which prides itself on service to ethical culture throughout the United States,” said Hartman. “AEU has set an extremely high standard and I can only hope to continue their tremendous efforts.”
With 30 years of service within the not-for-profit sector, Hartman brings a wealth of skills and experience to AEU. He was Executive Director of the Emmanuel Cancer Foundation a New Jersey based foundation that provides financial assistance and professional counseling to families that had a child with cancer. His most recent position, also as Executive Director, was with the Foundation for Treatment of Children with AIDS, in New York that made grants to hospitals throughout the country that had pediatric AIDS clinics.
Mr. Hartman has served in several senior development positions for the Boy Scouts of America, in Washington, D.C. and New York, the Regional Plan Association, the National Audubon Society, and the Volunteers of America all in New York City.
“Working with people from all walks of life and for organizations with missions from … the homeless to youth … the environment to people with AIDS … urban planning to children with cancer … I hopefully am well prepared,” said Hartman.
A resident of Plainfield, New Jersey, Mr. Hartman takes pleasure in gardening, cooking and playing and walking Polly, his golden retriever.
