Guidelines
for Posting to AEU Mailing Lists
"Act so as to elicit the best in others" is a good general guideline for list
behavior. Netiquette for AEU lists include fairness, kindness,
courtesy and respect for individuals.
Postings which harass or attack or personally insult individuals are not permitted.
You
are welcome to express civil disagreement with ideas and behavior.
Postings that are overly long, that come from addresses not subscribed to the lists,
or that include long lists of "cc:" addresses
are automatically rejected by the software managing the lists.
It's up to you as a subscriber to remedy the situation and resubmit your
post.
If you have an email program that sends formatted
emails, please turn this off. In Outlook and Outlook Express, look
for the address book entry for the list address, and check the box for
sending "plain text" to the list. Many subscribers receive gibberish if
you send formatted emails, and the formatting can easily double or
triple the actual size of your message, triggering the size limit on
posts.
For the sake of all subscribers, we ask that you keep copies of previous message text
to that portion of the original helpful to understanding your reply, that personal
messages be sent to individuals instead of to the list,
that you not forward long emails from outside sources (post a summary
and a link instead), and that posts focus
on the topic that
is the stated focus of the list.
Posts of copyrighted material, other than the small excerpts permitted as "fair
use," without permission of the copyright holder are not permitted. (For more
information on copyright in the United States see the Library
of Congress website.) That the AEU is a
not-for-profit, educational and religious organization does not
automatically make such postings "fair use." That an article is posted
online does not remove relevant copyright protections, and under current
law, this includes articles and emails without copyright notices on
them. Instead, post a summary of the information and, when available, a
link to the online version.
Don't forward virus warnings or email petitions --
most are bogus or are outdated. (See
http://antivirus.about.com or
http://urbanlegends.about.com
or other online resources to check the validity of such emails that you
may be tempted to forward.)
Please remember that list administrators are
volunteers, and may not be able to respond instantaneously to requests
or other emails.
