In Ethical Culture, we affirm the importance of working to make
our own lives and the world around us more humane. Local Ethical
Societies engage in a wide range of service, humanitarian and social
change projects. The American Ethical Union, at
delegated national assemblies and at meetings of our elected national board, has
taken
positions on a number of issues attempting to apply our ideals to current issues.
Members are not required to agree with these positions;
in addition to active projects, local Societies sponsor
discussion groups, Sunday platform addresses and other educational and discussion forums
for exploring ethical ideas from many perspectives.
The National
Service Conference, affiliated with the American Ethical Union,
works with other non-governmental organizations at the United Nations
and within the AEU on ethical peace-building and other programs.
The AEU works at the United Nations with other members of the
Council of Ethics-Based Organizations.
The Ethical Action Report
is the Ethical Action committee's primary mode of communicating
opportunities for individual and community action.
The National
Ethical Action Committee works with the AEU Board and local
societies to support ethical action.
The
Elliott-Black
Award is given periodically by the American Ethical Union as a
recognition and tribute to an individual in the larger community who
has made a significant ethical contribution to society at personal
risk and hardship
